Drunk Driver Who Killed Woman, Injured Daughter In PA County Crash Had Recently Lost Husband

A Warminster woman who crashed into a tree while drunk, killing her backseat passenger and severely injuring the woman’s daughter, has been sentenced to up to a decade in prison, Bucks County authorities announced.

Kimberly Ann Roach-Trochak, 47, was sentenced on Monday, March 3, to four to 10 years in state prison for the August 2022 wreck in Upper Southampton Township, court records show.

Her sentencing comes less than three years after the sudden death of her husband, James W. Trochak, a longtime U.S. Postal Service employee, who died at 54 in March 2022—just five months before the fatal crash, according to his obituary by the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home.

Roach-Trochak was found guilty in December following a waiver trial before Judge Stephen A. Corr on charges of homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, DUI, careless driving, and disregarding traffic lanes.

Investigators say she had spent the evening drinking at bars in Philadelphia and Montgomery County before getting behind the wheel of her 2012 Nissan Rogue. At around 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2022, she veered off Churchville Road and slammed into a tree.

First responders arrived to find Roach-Trochak semi-conscious and pinned behind the wheel. In the backseat, 53-year-old Marita McTamney was unresponsive, not breathing. Her daughter, who had been in the front passenger seat, was lying on the ground with a fractured sternum, a lacerated spleen, a bruised kidney, and multiple other injuries.

McTamney was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy confirmed she suffered multiple blunt-force injuries.

Tests later revealed Roach-Trochak was intoxicated and had marijuana in her system at the time of the crash.

Judge Corr handed down a four- to 10-year sentence for homicide by vehicle while DUI and a concurrent two- to four-year sentence for aggravated assault while DUI.

The case was investigated by Upper Southampton Detective Anthony Marsaglia and prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Jovin Jose.
